Baseball Ontario Announces the Appointment of Kyle Fillier as Sport Development Officer

Ontario — February 11, 2026— Ontario Baseball Association (Baseball Ontario) is proud to announce the hiring of Kyle Fillier as the organization’s new Sport Development Officer, a key leadership role responsible for advancing baseball development, coach education, athlete safety, technical standards, and system-wide best practices across the province.

Raised in East York’s vibrant baseball community, Fillier’s pathway through the Ontario baseball system reflects a lifelong commitment to the game and its development structures. Progressing through multiple competitive streams, he went on to represent Canada as a Junior National Team alumnus before extending his playing career at Connors State College and Southern Arkansas University. This foundation has shaped his deep understanding of athlete progression, high‑performance environments, and development pathways from grassroots to elite levels.

Fillier will bring that experience into his new role to cultivate strong learning environments rooted in accountability, skill development, and long‑term growth. His approach emphasizes equipping coaches with the tools, insight, and confidence needed to positively influence young athletes and foster meaningful, development‑driven team cultures.

“Baseball Ontario is thrilled to welcome Kyle to this critical leadership role,” said Ed Quinlan, President of Baseball Ontario. “His unique blend of technical expertise, developmental experience, and lifelong connection to Ontario’s baseball community positions him to make an immediate and meaningful impact across our programming.”

In his new capacity, Fillier will report to our Executive Director, overseeing certification and professional development, and support coaches through mentorship and resource development. He will also oversee arm care and workload management standards, contribute to injury‑prevention strategies, and ensure alignment with evidence‑based player‑development practices. His work will include maintaining and interpreting OBA rules, implementing technical standards, and supporting rule‑change communication across the membership.

Fillier will further play a key role in incident reporting, trend analysis, and risk management, collaborating closely with Baseball Ontario’s Safe Sport and Integrity Officer personnel, discipline committees and various partners. He will represent Baseball Ontario at provincial and national events, and contribute to strategic planning and system-wide sport development initiatives.

Baseball remains a deeply rooted family pursuit for Fillier. He continues to coach alongside his father, Hugh Walters, and his brothers, Logan and Reilly, reinforcing their shared commitment to mentorship, community involvement, and the enduring values the game instills. Off the field, he and his wife are raising their two young boys immersed in the same baseball culture that shaped his journey—honouring family traditions while inspiring the next generation of players.

“I am honoured to join Baseball Ontario in this capacity,” said Fillier. “This organization has played a significant role in my own development and career, and I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the game, support our athletes and coaches, and strengthen baseball development across the province.”

Fillier will begin his role effective February 23, 2026.
