BEC Welcomes Marlins High-A affiliate Baserunning and Defensive Coach, Mason Sherrill
The Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) is proud to announce the first guest speaker for the 2026 Best Ever Coaches Clinic, Miami Marlins High-A affiliate Baserunning and Defensive Coach, Mason Sherrill.
Mason Sherrill spent the 2025 season as the Baserunning and Defensive Coach for the Miami Marlins’ High-A affiliate, the Beloit Sky Carp. In his first year in professional baseball, Beloit’s emphasis on speed and awareness led to a Midwest League record 344 stolen bases, the most across all levels of affiliated baseball that year.
Before joining the Marlins, Sherrill coached at Canisius University (NCAA Division I, MAAC) in Buffalo, New York, where the Golden Griffins posted back-to-back 100+ stolen-base seasons for the first time in program history and set a new single-season record in 2024. Along with setting program records, various players set individual stolen base records program-wide and division-wide.
Sherrill also coached at William Jessup University (NAIA, GSAC) in Rocklin, California. During the 2022 season, his team established new school records for most stolen bases, stolen-base attempts, and highest success rate, while also setting individual program records for single-game, single-season, and career stolen bases.
Sherrill’s coaching approach combines data, competition, and daily focus to help players convert speed into production. His focus is on teaching efficient movement, improving decision-making, and creating consistent habits that make baserunning an everyday part of team identity.
The 2026 Best Ever Coaches Clinic returns to the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel & Conference Centre from January 16-18, 2026. It features a line-up of knowledgeable guest speakers, an 8U-13U Youth Team education series, vendors, and much more! To register, visit www.playoba.ca/bestever.
