BEC Welcomes New Jersey Institute of Technology Assistant Coach, Anthony Deleo

The Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) is proud to announce our next guest speaker for the 2026 Best Ever Coaches Clinic, New Jersey Institute of Technology Assistant Coach, Anthony Deleo!

Deleo is entering his eighth season at the NJIT (D1-America East), after joining the staff in September of 2018, spending the last four as Pitching Coach & Recruiting Coordinator.

During his time at NJ Tech, the Highlanders have been elevated to a top program in the Northeast region. The 2025 season marked the fifth consecutive 20+ win campaign, as well as the fifth consecutive America East Conference tournament berth. Their 27 wins marked the highest total in program history. Since joining the America East in 2021, the Highlanders lead all conference programs in postseason wins, including a program-first NCAA Tournament win at the 2021 Fayetteville Regional.

He has coached 33 conference award winners, including two All-Region recipients, an America East Pitcher of the Year, one Freshman All-American, and two America East Rookie of the Year winners.

Under his tutelage, the NJIT Pitching Staff has achieved unprecedented success. The 2025 staff finished 2nd in the America East in pitching, as well as leading the conference in Complete Games, Saves, and had the highest draft pick in school history (LHP Holden Dejong, Baltimore Orioles). They also captured a program-first Conference ERA crown in the 2023 season, while winning individual K and IP awards. There have been three of Deleo’s players nominated for National awards, including the NCBWA Stopper of the Year (Jake Rappaport, 2021) and the Buster Posey Award (Paul Franzoni, 2019 & Luke Longo, 2023)

Along with his duties at NJIT, Deleo coaches with the Great Britain National Team, having roles as both the U23 Bullpen Coach and U18 Pitching Coach. During the 2024 European Championships, the U18 team achieved their highest finish ever, coming in 4th place in Regensburg, Germany. To contribute to the recent Olympic/International influx, the 2025 U23 Program made history. They went into hostile territory and secured the first Gold Medal in Great Britain History, capturing the crown over the Czechs at the European Championship, hosted in Trebic, Czechia.

Prior to his arrival in Newark, Deleo spent one season as an Assistant Coach at Merrimack College, a (then) Division 2 program in North Andover, MA. During the spring of 2018, the Warriors went on to win the program’s first NE-10 championship and advancing to the NCAA East Regional. That summer, he was named Assistant Coach for the Plymouth Pilgrims of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Before returning to the college game, Deleo spent 2017 in the Toronto Blue Jays Player Development Department as their Coordinator of MiLB Video. He helped implement new age techniques of integrating video and advanced scouting work with on-field coaching directives. Prior to Toronto, Deleo spent the 2016 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, working in Player Development as a Video/Development Coach. After spending spring training split between the Major and Minor league groups, he was assigned as part of the coaching staff for the Great Lakes Loons (Low-A), where they took home the first Midwest League Championship in club history. Immediately after finishing his playing career, Deleo started working as the Assistant GM/Coaching Intern for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League prior to/through the 2015 season. To this date, Deleo has coached 22 Big League players and 29 MLB Draft Picks.

The Athol, Massachusetts native played collegiately at Bridgewater State University (MA), where he was a 4 year catcher and 2 time captain.
