Dean Oberle Legacy Fund Partners with Waterloo Region Community Foundation

The Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) is proud to announce a meaningful new partnership with the Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF), establishing the Dean Oberle Legacy Fund—a permanent charitable endowment dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of Dean Oberle.

With over 40 years of experience managing charitable funds, WRCF will oversee the endowment, ensuring long-term sustainability while providing donors with official tax receipts for contributions made in Dean’s memory.

The fund will be invested by WRCF, with annual earnings used to support memorial scholarships for athletes and officials pursuing post-secondary education. These scholarships will recognize individuals who embody the qualities that defined Dean—leadership, passion, and a lasting impact on the game.

The announcement was intentionally made on April 14, marking Dean’s birthday—a fitting tribute to a person who made a lasting difference in both baseball and volleyball communities.

A Unique Way to Give Back

Supporters are encouraged to contribute at any level. In tribute to Dean’s love of sport, donation tiers have been playfully themed:

Continued Commitment to Development

In addition to the endowment, separate non-charitable funds will continue to be raised through events such as the annual golf tournament. These funds will directly support officials in their personal growth and development.

The OBA will collaborate with both the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) and Ontario Baseball partners to help determine annual scholarship recipients.
