Call for Applications: Head Coach, Ontario Youth Team 2027-2029
The Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) is seeking applications for the position of Head Coach, Ontario Youth Team (17U), a three-year appointment that will lead Ontario's youth high-performance program through the 2027, 2028, and 2029 seasons, culminating with participation at the 2029 Canada Games.
The successful candidate will provide leadership for athlete identification, player development, staff recruitment, training activities, and competition preparation, including the 2027 and 2028 Baseball Canada Cup and the 2029 Canada Games.
Program Commitments
The successful candidate must be available for:
- Ontario Youth Team Tryouts
- Pre-Tournament Training Activities
- Baseball Canada Cup/Canada Games
- Ongoing athlete identification and development activities throughout the 2027-2029 cycle
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be actively involved with an OBA-affiliated member club, or recognized program.
- Be a member in good standing with OBA.
- Meet all OBA Safe Sport and screening requirements.
- Be available for, and actively participate in the establishment of, all required program activities.
- Be a resident of Ontario and maintain Ontario residency throughout the term of the appointment.
NCCP Certification Requirements
In accordance with Baseball Canada national championship coaching standards, applicants must possess the required Competition Development (Comp-Dev) Certified status or demonstrate that they are actively progressing toward completion of the certification requirements and will meet the required timelines established by Baseball Canada and OBA. OBA is committed to supporting the selected applicant in achieving all outstanding certification requirements necessary to meet national championship coaching standards and prescribed certification timelines.
Desired Qualifications
Coach Education & Technical Knowledge
- Appropriate NCCP/OBA certification for the age and competitive level.
- Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals, rules, player development, and game strategy.
- Ability to plan and deliver safe, organized, and age-appropriate practices.
- Current Safe Sport training and required screening.
- Commitment to ongoing coach education and professional development.
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture.
- Athlete-centred approach focused on development, safety, and enjoyment.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and professionally manage challenging situations.
- Effective collaboration with coaches, players, parents, officials, and OBA staff.
- Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and sound judgment.
- Previous coaching experience at the high-performance or elite youth level is an asset.
